Sumbe - The German NGO (Santa Barbara foundation) cleared 38,405 square metres from landmines in Wako Kungo locality, Cela district, coastal Kwanza Sul province.

ANGOP learnt that this humanitarian activity enabled the removal of 394 anti-personnel landmines placed during the armed conflicts in the country. Santa Barbara operates in Cela since 2007, and has already demined an area estimated at 130,088 square metres, as well as deactivated 1,216 explosive devices. Landmines clearance in Kwanza Sul province has been contributing, not only, in the recovery of roads, but, mainly, in boosting the farming activity. (Source: www.reliefweb.int; 21.08.08) (tr)
